Temple Secondary School wins 2017 My Family Mobile Rugby League

Temple Secondary School, Ikeja at the weekend emerged champions of the 2017 My Family Mobile All Schools Rugby League by picking a total of 25 points ahead of defending champions, British International School, which struggled to earn 10 points to place third behind debutants, Avi Cenna Secondary School.

The keenly contested final games at Temple Secondary School Sports Centre saw the top three finalists working hard to win the league on points. On the road to the final round of matches, Temple Secondary School, was beaten 3-1 tries by AVI  Cenna, which also won their second game by beating British International School by one try. BIS in their second game also lost to Temple School 3-2.

In the primary school league, Corona School showed their determination to win the competition by the manner they beat Temple School. The game held at Corona School, Gbagada had all the ingredients of a classic match with the  children battling for every ball despite the heavy down pour.

Charity Odunuga of Corona scored the first try for his team in the early minutes of the tie in the tension soaked game. The home team, which seemed to understand the pitch more than the visitors, scored another try through Olasogba Oluwatobiloba to seal the game. Osagie Aziegbe of Temple School reduced the tally late on to end the game at 2-1.

In other games of the day, Temple again lost to Chrisland School 3-2, while in the last game of the day Chrisland defeated Corona at home 1-0. Coordinator of the league, Seyi Opanubi said the Rugby league is aimed at training and nurturing fresh talents from their early age.

“The Rugby league, which is a platform to make children love the sport at their formative years, has been a huge success. Parents and their wards are now interested in being part of the sport, which is the company’s dream.

“The company is also delighted that more schools are aspiring to compete in the sport. Funds for coaching the children and buying of tags, vests and balls for the league are from the company not parents or the participating schools,” he said.
