Sports philanthropist, Senator Aruwa is dead
• Governor El-Rufai, Sani, others mourn
Former National Assembly member and sports philanthropist, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Mukhtar Aruwa, died yesterday, and was buried according to Islamic rites in Kaduna.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central zone, have expressed their condolences, while eulogising the late Aruwa for the growth of sports in the country.
Dignitaries at his burial yesterday, included Governor El-Rufai, former Vice President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, former governors of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, Mukhtar Ramallan Yero, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate, Isa Ashiru and others.
Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi presided over the burial rite of the deceased, as Governor El-Rufai said in a statement, that “Senator Aruwa was a philanthropist, who contributed to sports, farming and politics in Nigeria.
“I received the news of Senator Mukhtar Ahmad Aruwa’s death with sadness. Our thoughts are with his family and we pray Allah to grant him Aljannah Firdausi.“He was a senator and a philanthropist par excellence who assisted our people in different sectors. He made a significant contribution to sport in Kaduna State, especially football and polo. He established the Ranchers Bees Football Club that birthed many stars, like Daniel Amokachi, Tajudeen Oyekanmi, Abubakar Balarabe and some of the Babayaro brothers.”
