FOR the first time since it debuted, the Southern Sun Ikoyi Golf Tournament would not be held at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938 (its traditional venue), but at the lush green Lakowe Lakes Golf Course. It holds on Wednesday November 11th.

Now in its fifth year, the tourney, which is expected to feature 72 of Nigeria’s finest amateur players, is an annual event held by the hotel to provide a networking platform for its clients and customers; offer support to charitable causes as well as positively influence sporting activities within its community.

“The tournament is not a commercial effort but a corporate means of expressing gratitude to our sponsors and clients. It would be special as individual scoring would be recognised in the two-in-one-hole as two winners would emerge, while proceeds from the golf tournament would be given to the Arrow of God Orphanage,” the hotel’s General Manager, Mr Mark Loxley revealed at a media briefing in Lagos.
He added that this edition, which like others has witnessed a groundswell of sponsors, would offer some freshness and variety to the tournament.

In the competition, which two vehicles- a Toyota 2015 RAV4 from Mandilas Motors, and a Mini Cooper from Coscharis Motors, are staked as hole-in-one prizes, return tickets to various destinations from tournament sponsors are also part of the prizes to be won. This year’s tournament sponsors include Stanbic IBTC Nigeria, Kenya Airways, SO&U Limited, United Airlines, Rwandair, Guaranty Trust Bank, Qatar Airways, Coca Cola and Nightingale amongst others.

Also speaking at the event, the Group Managing Director of SO&U Limited, Mr Udeme Ufot, expressed delight to partner with Southern Sun Ikoyi to host the tourney saying, “We are extremely delighted to partner with Southern Sun Ikoyi, a hotel with a reputation for outstanding innovation, and are confident that the tournament would provide an interesting day for golfers” he noted.
