Former Super Eagles Defender, Yisa Sofoluwe believes the exclusion of Nigeria National League players from the players listed for CHAN 2018 qualifiers is a big error.

The home-based players are expected to return to their Kano camp today after playing for their clubs in league matches at the weekend. And Sofuluwe believes the CHAN championship slated to hold in Kenya next year is a big opportunity for the Eagles’ coaches to discover talents from all the various leagues in the country.

He said the exclusion of NNL players would not create enough competition in the Eagles camp, adding that there are quality players in the lower leagues waiting to be discovered.

According to Sofoluwe, restricting selection of players for the CHAN to only the NPFL would not give the Eagles’ coaches a clear insight into the abundant talent pool available to them.

He, therefore, called on the Eagles’ coaches to monitor every tier of the Nigerian league to get the best available players.

“The CHAN is used to develop the local league and also discover talents. There are enough talents in the lower leagues begging for chance to show their class.

“In other climes, coaches go beyond their first division teams to source for players. We cannot go anywhere in Nigerian football if things were not done in the right manner. How can more talents be discovered if the search for players is not done in all levels of the league. The current highest goal scorer in the NNL and other quality players need to be in the CHAN camp to fight for shirts with their NPFL counterparts. NNL players can be invited for the WAFU Cup,” he said.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles Manager, Gernot Rohr is expected in the country today to join the CHAN team in Kano, the team’s Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, has disclosed.

Ibitoye also revealed that the CHAN players, who are expected to return to camp today, would resume training immediately for the CHAN qualifier against Benin Republic.
