Some former Super Eagles stars, who made the country proud in their days in the senior national team will be decorated with honours today in Lagos.

These players that are to honoured include the interim coach of the national team, Coach Samson Siasia, former African footballer of the year, Victor Ikpeba, Coach Austin Eguavoen, Peter Rufai and Waidi Akanni would be decorated at the Jonaith Hotel and Suite in Ajah, Lagos.

According to the manager of the hotel, Obiora Nweke Celestine, the event was put together by the management of Jonaith to celebrate these heroes who brought successes to the country by taking nation’s football glory to its pinnacle both in African and the world.

Stating that these achievements by these players prompted the management of the hotel to give them the due recognition, as most of them do not get it when they are still alive.

Celestine said that the hotel would celebrate these former Eagles stars today in order to encourage other outfits that might want to do the same to these illustrious sons of the nation.

“What we are doing is to appreciate and honour our former stars so that those representing the country currently can give their best knowing that they would not be forgotten when they stop playing for the country.

“I recall that most of these players qualified Nigeria for its first World Cup while they also won the country’s second Nations Cup trophy in Tunisia in 1994. We at Jonaith also hope that other organisations will emulate our kind gesture and give honour to whom it is due,” Celestine added.
