Sam Ahmedu worried about players’ poor shooting ability
FIBA-Africa Zone Three President, Colonel Sam Ahmedu (rtd) has identified shooting as a major problem facing Nigerian basketball.
Ahmedu was at the National Stadium, Surulere on Saturday to watch the final of the Zenith Women Basketball League where First Bank defeated First Deepwater 84 to 53 to retain the title they won last year.
He expressed disappointment over the shooting ability of both sides in the final encounter, which was witnessed by former President of the NBBF, Tijani Umar, and the Deputy managing Director of Zenith Bank, Ebenezer Onyeagwu.
In the first and second quarters, First Deepwater and First Bank missed glaring chances to increase tally, including free throws to the dismay of the huge spectators at the sports hall.
Ahmedu said: “The major problem of the players in Nigeria, both at the club and national team level, is shooting. It is purely technical and we really have to work on this to boost the standard of the game.
