Louis van Gaal says Wayne Rooney is angry with him, because he was not allowed to complete the full 90 minutes as Manchester United defeated Aston Villa yesterday.

United ran out 1-0 winners over the doomed strugglers, whose relegation was confirmed at Old Trafford, with Marcus Rashford scoring the only goal of the game in the first half.

Rooney started the game but was substituted in the 67th minute, with Jesse Lingard his replacement, and Van Gaal claims the United skipper was disappointed not to complete the encounter.

Explaining his tactical changes, Van Gaal told reporters: “I wanted to change him (Rashford) also. I have doubted for a long time because he has played the last 12 matches. But he was very positive, he was positive to play, he told me he was fit.”
