Gombe and Yobe states battling for honours at the basketball event of the Eko 2012 Festival. The NBBF men’s league dunked off…yesterday.

As Nigerian men’s basketball league dunked off yesterday with Kwara Falcons beating Customs of Lagos 63 to 50 away from home in the opening game of the season, Rivers Hoopers have boasted that they will enter the competition with a resounding victory over Customs of Lagos on April 20..

Hoopers management say they are excited by the decision of Kwese Sports to sponsor the league, noting that the NBBF’s decision to increase the number of games played by each team during the 2017 season to 28 is a welcome development for the league.

Speaking to The Guardian yesterday, Hoopers Media Officer, Queen John stated that the Port Harcourt based outfit has fine-tuned arrangements to give their best in the league this season.

Also speaking ahead of the game against Customs, Coach Odaudu said he has a a formidable team that would crush the border boys. He also described the decision by the NBBF to increase the matches every team will play this season as good for the league.

“This season will bring out the best in every team because we are playing more games, and the more games a team plays helps the team to improve. With 28 games a coach has the opportunity to correct all the anomalies in his team,” Odaudu said.

Meanwhile, the regular season of the league, which commenced yesterday, will run up to August 5, while the All Stars weekend will be staged in Abuja on June 17.

At the end of the regular season on August 5, there will be a week’s break before the Conference Play-offs scheduled for August 14 to 18. The top four teams in the Atlantic Conference will progress to the finals, where they will join the top four teams from the Savannah Conference to play in the final eight.
