Referees society urges members to embrace latest rugby laws

The president of the Nigerian Rugby Referees Society, Mohammed Salisu and the newly elected Lagos State Rugby Association Technical Director, Ayo Johnson at the weekend urged members of the society to embrace the latest laws guiding the game ahead of the 2019 season.

Speaking during a ceremony organised by the Lagos State Referees Society to reward some officials, who distinguished themselves last season, the society said the game would grow only when the match officials applied strictly the latest laws regulating the sport.

The ceremony at the Rugby House in Lagos saw five members getting medals for their outstanding performance during the season. The awardees are Rukyat Jimoh, Collins Gilbert, Marrios Moses, Hassan Bello and Felix Salami and Ifeanyi Arinze, who received a special jersey for his excellent officiating skills at the 2018 president cup.Some of the rugby tournaments where the referees distinguished themselves were the 2018 league season, Eco 2 school rugby, President Cup and Racing 10s Championship.Members of the association were also entertained and educated on the rules of the game of rugby at the low-key ceremony.
