Toriola now rated 101, Oshonaike 206

Aruna Quadri has retained his number 25th position in the latest ranking released yesterday by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) for the month of October.

In the release, seven-time Olympian, Segun Toriola is ranked 101 from 109 while current Africa’s champion, Funke Oshonaike, is rated 206 from 256 and Bode Abiodun rose from 175 from 183.

Others include Olajide Omotayo, Azeez Jamiu and Nurudeen Hassan who have now made entry into the ITTF world ranking.

Quadri’s current status came as a surprise despite a first round exit at the ITTF World Cup in Germany and the recent defeat to Egypt’s Omar Assar at the ITTF Africa Senior Championships in Morocco.

The highest ranked African player whose previous point was 2441, rose to 2445 in the latest announcement.

Meanwhile, Quadri wants his fans across the world to support him by voting him as the winner of this year’s ITTF star awards.

The quarterfinalist at the Olympics in Rio was listed among the four nominees for the ITTF Male Player of the Year in the December 8, ITTF Star Awards holding in Doha, Qatar. Already voting had started across the globe with the voting ending on November 13.

“I am so excited and honoured to be nominated for the this prestigious award alongside some of the world’s best including world and Olympics champion, China’s Ma Long. Having won the award in 2014, I think the support of my fans across made it possible two years ago and I am also relying on it again to become the first player in the history of the award to win it twice,” the 2014 ITTF star player said.

The Portugal-based star added: “To vote for me, they can go to ITTFStarawards.com and make their vote counts as I hope and believe this award will inspire more players from Nigeria and Africa in general that nothing is possible for you inasmuch as you put your mind into it. So I am appealing to them to go and vote before the deadline on November 13.”
