Prodigies set for PwC Chess4Change grand slam

Some of the best young players in Lagos State have started getting ready to match their wits and skills at the PwC Chess4Change Grand Slam slated for the Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere from April 19 to 21.

Some of the best young players in Lagos State have started getting ready to match their wits and skills at the PwC Chess4Change Grand Slam slated for the Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere from April 19 to 21.

The tournament, which is the final event of the PwC sponsored Chess4Change programme, promises to be exciting and fun-filled, as 20 schools stake their claim for top honours in this year’s edition, which is the second season after a successful pilot scheme.

At the first edition, King’s College Lagos, Akande Dahunsi Memorial High School, Ikoyi and Falomo Senior High School, Ikoyi took home the medals and occupied the top three spots in that order.

Chess4Change is an initiative to improve critical reasoning among the youth in public secondary schools in Lagos State using the game of chess.

Some participating schools in this year’s edition include Itolo Girls Senior Secondary School, Surulere, Government Senior College, Victoria Island, Government Senior College, Eric Moore, Sari Iganmu Senior Secondary School, Orile and Kuramo Senior College, Victoria Island, amongst others.

Gifts and cash prizes will be presented to winning schools, as well as to outstanding players by the sponsors, PwC.

Dignitaries from the Ministry of Education, Lagos State Sports Commission and Lagos State Chess Association would also participate in the event.
