President of Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Gbenga Lufadeju has called on government at all levels, corporate entities and well meaning Nigerians to provide sports facilities in all parts of the country to encourage more youth participation in sports.

Lufadeju told The Guardian at the weekend that Nigeria has the potential to thrive in sports if the enabling environment was created for athletes to hone their skills.

While reflecting on his  achievements as the president of Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Lafadeju said revamping the tennis courts, the squash section and all facilities of the club to international standard has been the hallmark of his administration.

He added that the tennis club decision to continue sponsoring and hosting international championships has put Nigeria on the world tennis map.

“ There is need for more sports facilities in the country, as it would enable youths train every day and develop themselves.

“On my part as the president of Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, I am focused mainly on organising competitions to keep members active. Our effort to groom more children and youths to attain international standard in tennis is an ongoing project.

“The club needs more corporate bodies to sponsor events because for any championship to meet international standard it needs much finances.

“I thank the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and other well meaning Nigerians for supporting the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club activities,” he said.
