Plateau United continued their steady march to what may become their first Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) victory this season with a 2-0 defeat of Niger Tornadoes yesterday. The win takes them to a six-point advantage over the chasing park.

Kabiru Umar and Philip Azango were the heroes in either half as they inflicted Niger Tornadoes their first loss in five games. In Umuahia, Abia Warriors’ fans left the township stadium wondering what befell their team, as El Kanemi players and officials celebrated their first away win of the season.

Husseni Bala got the decisive goal for the visitors. At the Muhammadou Dikko Stadium, substitute Kayode Olaniran rescued a point for Shooting Stars as they came from behind to hold Katsina United to a 1-1 draw, while Gombe United were held to a goalless draw by Akwa United.

Sani Nasiru opened scores for the hosts from the sport in the first half, but Olaniran ensured 3SC went home with a share of the spoils.

In Sagamu, Remo Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Lobi Stars, with Anthony Okpotu’s 49th minute goal cancelling the home team’s 14th minute strike through Victor Mbaoma. The same scoreline ended Nasarawa United’s clash with Sunshine Stars, with Olayinka Onaolapo’s 53rd minute goal cancelled by substitute Sunday Oluwadare’s equaliser.
