Plateau State golfers will dominate Nigeria, says Lalong
Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has said that his administration is implementing golf to development strategies, which will make golfers in the state dominate the sport in national competitions.
The governor disclosed this when he received the President of Nigeria Golf Federation, Nazif Mohammed, at the Presidential Lodge, Government House, Jos.He said that the state government supported the take – off of the two Golf Academics in the Lamingo and Rayfield Golf Clubs and upgrading of Golf Courses in the state. He disclosed that the remodelling work on the Golf Course at the Government House, Rayfield, would soon be completed and commissioned.
He said that his administration would not relent making the state complete favourably with any state in the federation that want to invest in golf.Earlier, Mohammed said that they were in the state for the North Central Zone Female Tournament in preparation for the International Competition taking place later in Las Vegas, the United States.He thanked the governor for having an unparalleled interest in sports development in the country.
In a related development, the first edition of the Nigerian Golf Federation tagged “Junior Open” climaxed on Saturday amidst pomp and pageantry at the Rayfield Golf Club, Jos.
Lalong commended the participants who cut across major states in the country, stressing that the Rayfield Golf Academy had just been established, adding that the Academy kids competed favourably against the oppositions from other established Golf Academies.
Participating kids from Otukpo Golf Club in Benue State dominated the prizes categories with the Nigerian Golf Federation, through its president, Nazif Mohammed, who presented the governor with an appreciation trophy for his role in grassroots sports development through golf.
