Plateau, Edo top PGA Nigeria Qualifying School list

Plateau and Edo States have the highest number of players at the ongoing accreditation of participants in the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of Nigeria 2019/2020 Qualifying School final.

Plateau and Edo States have the highest number of players at the ongoing accreditation of participants in the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of Nigeria 2019/2020 Qualifying School final.

Among the clubs from states across the federation, Plateau has 13 players and Edo State has nine players, while other states have a handful of two to five players, even as about 90 players are expected to participate in the exercise that began with arrival and accreditation of players on Monday and Tuesday, which was the official opening ceremony.

The event teed off on Wednesday with the practical aspects of the exercise, which will end tomorrow.

In the same vein, both Plateau and the Edo States are already talking tough on which side would have the most candidates qualifying for the ultimate professional status.

While the Plateau side is banking on the euphoria of their 2018/2019 performance, the Edo sides are of the opinion that the Port Harcourt golf course is similar to their Benin golf course.

Tina Micah, one of the lady players from the Plateau team said, “Plateau is a golf state and we have always demonstrated it with our performances in previous PGA of Nigeria events as this, by coming tops,” she said.

Emmanuel Ojeabulu one of the top category one players from Edo State believes, “The Port Harcourt golf course is similar to Benin golf course; they have the same course challenges; we from Benin are used to such challenges – the trees, the grass; the fairways are the same; with this, in mind, I think the Edo side are the team to beat,; we have been preparing hard for this event and the D-Day is here,” he said.

Meanwhile, an examination board has been set up with PGA Nigeria legends in the committee with Peter Akakasiaka, Chairman; Patrick Okpomu and Tony Uduimoh as the board advisers.
