Pillars, Safety Babes win Prudent Energy Handball League

Kano Pillars and Safety Babes on Wednesday night won this year’s men and women’s categories respectively of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League at the Rowe Park Sports Center in Yaba, Lagos State.

Kano Pillars and Safety Babes on Wednesday night won this year’s men and women’s categories respectively of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League at the Rowe Park Sports Center in Yaba, Lagos State.

Pillars edged out De Defenders 29 to 21 to win the male category of the men’s league with 38 points, two points above Safety Shooters, who defeated the defending champions, Niger United 34 to 29 to finish as runners up with 36 points.

Niger United finished in the fourth position with 34 points, same as Lagos Seasiders, who piped them to the third position with better goal difference.  De Defenders came fifth with 31 points, COAS Shooters sixth with 25 points, Plateau Vipers seventh with 17 points and Kada Stars eighth with 16 points.

Borno Spiders finished ninth with 12 points, while Owena Kings and Prison Key Boys are the bottom placed teams.

In the female category, Safety Babes won the title after beating the defending champions, Plateau Peacocks 31 to 29 in an epic final game of the tournament. The FRSC ladies finished first on the log with 32 points, while Plateau finished third with 29 points.

Edo Dynamos finished second with 30 points as they played a 31-31 draw with Ghana Police in a match that didn’t have any significance on the league standing.

Imo Grasshoppers finished fourth with 26 points as they defeated fifth place Seasider Babes of Lagos 27-21. Seasiders finished with 18 points.

At the end, both Pillars and Babes won a cash prize of N1 million for their efforts, while the first and second runners up got N750,000 and N500, 000 respectively.
