Tomorrow in Lagos, the PGA Nigeria will spread the red carpet to celebrate members, who have contributed to the growth of the game as part of its 50th anniversary.

The PGA Nigeria will celebrate six of its outstanding members in its Hall of Fame in Lagos…today.

There comes a time in the life of an organisation when the members sit back to look at how far they have come — from the little beginnings to the highs and lows of their journey so far.

That is the path the leadership of the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN) has chosen.

Tomorrow in Lagos, the PGA Nigeria will spread the red carpet to celebrate members, who have contributed to the growth of the game as part of its 50th anniversary.

Recently, the leadership of the PGA Nigeria began a reform process that is expected to usher in a new era of growth in terms of player development and general growth of the game.

Part of the process is a partnership with Seventh Sports International Network, which, among other things, will give members of the PGA Nigeria a sense of belonging in their career.

It is the “PGA Nigeria @50 Hall Of Fame,” which will hold at Golf View Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

According to PGA Nigeria Director, Samson Lawal, the initiative is aimed at appreciating those who have contributed to the development of the game and also raising the bar for members.

The first of its kind since the inception of PGAN in 1969, Lawal said, “Inducting deserving persons into the “Hall of Fame” is one of the ways PGAN has decided to recognise those who have contributed immensely towards the development of the game.”

He added, “There is no financial reward attached in this honour; we are only trying to appreciate the efforts of members and also to raise the bar for others – to let them know that there is always a reward for hard work in anything anybody does in life. It is done in other climes as Europe and America PGAs and Nigeria cannot be different.”

Also speaking on the Hall of Fame, the Secretary-General of PGA Nigeria, Jide Bolaji revealed, “the association has penciled down seven persons to be honoured in the PGA Nigeria Hall Of Fame, but the names will only be made known at the event.

“We are honouring current and deserving players as well as senior players. It is something that will also encourage all players to double their efforts in the game, knowing that there is a reward for hard work.

“Finally, it will interest you to know that this is also part of the events for the association’s forthcoming 50th anniversary – the grand finale is going to be in August which is next month.”

The current PGA Nigeria Board recently started the process of admitting women into the PGAN Qualifying School and also facilitated the visit of PGAs of Europe Director of Development, Martins Westphal to the country.
