Oyome set to defend Ikoyi Ladies Championship title
Oyome, who spoke ahead of the tourney, said defending the hotly contested trophy she won last year was one of the ways she could prove that her current form was no fluke.
“I’ve remained almost undisputable because of the trophies I’ve won in recent tournaments, but I can only justify that impression by making sure I win this 2015 edition, because I won it last year,” Oyome stated.
“Again, let me acknowledge one fact that this championship is not going to be easy. There are other good golfers that will be playing as well and they would want to win. That is the reason the competition will be very tough, but I’m going to retain the title,” she assured.
The two-day tourney, which over 200 ladies will exchange swings, has on offer, lovely trophies for tournament winners and consolation prizes. It is the first tournament under the captainship of the new Lady Captain, Edna Anukwuem.
According to the programme of events, Ikoyi lady golfers playing off handicap 0-36 took their turn yester day, while handicaps 0-28 ladies and guest ladies will hit the fairway today.
Anukwuem while speaking recently said that top golfers like former lady captain, Evelyn Oyome, Taddy Dance, Ronke Iyiola, Mercy Freely, among others would be in action vying for honours.
According to her, “This is my first tournament as lady captain and that means I expect a free and fair game from all the players. We have to play according to the rules of the game in order to move golf forward in Nigeria.
