AT least six countries have indicated interest to take part in the forthcoming First Lagos International Junior Open Championship. Countries that have so far expressed interest are Ghana, Gabon, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Togo and Uganda. More are still expected.

The international tourney is at the behest of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), and in conjunction with the Lagos State government.

Slated to run from March 13 to 15, 2015 at Ikeja Golf Club, the 54-hole competition is open to junior players aged five to 19 years. The tourney, a gross event, will witness a cut after 36 holes.

According to the organisers, a free golf clinic/training by Golf Tour & Academy, will run concurrently with the championship.

Vice President of NGF, Kunle Dada, who also chairs the organizing committee, said, “This event promises to be a very interesting and unique one because our junior players will not just be competing among themselves, but against players from outside the country.

“This will also foster friendship amongst them. Our sincere gratitude goes to Governor Raji Fashola of Lagos State, who has always been a good supporter of sports as well as the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports Mr. Enitan Oshodi, for sponsoring the event.”
