Team Nigeria’s wrestling squad is set6 for a road show, which will see them participate in a grand prix event in Dormagen, Germany and the Dan Kolov-Nikola Petrov ranking series tournament in Bulgaria.

Both tournaments will afford the athletes the opportunity to gain ranking points in the sport.

According to the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), a contingent of three female wrestlers and a coach will depart tomorrow via a Lufthansa Airliner ahead of the tournaments.

The wrestlers are all Commonwealth champions, including Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg), Aminat Adeniyi (62kg) and Blessing Oborududu (68kg). Experienced female coach, Purity Akuh, will lead the team.

The Grand Prix of Germany event will run from February 22 to 24, with the Team moving over to Ruse, Bulgaria on February 27 for the Dan Kolov-Nikola Petrov ranking series tournament, which will be staged from February 28 to March 3.

“It is very important for us to be at the ranking series because last year we were not ranked at all,” Coach Purity said. “And this year, the President (Daniel Igali) has decided that we have to go to all the ranking tournaments so that we can be ranked.

“Our participation means most of our top athletes can be ranked. The competitions will help boost their ranking.”
