There seems to be no stopping Osaze Iyare in the Edo/Delta golf circle. At the weekend in Benin, Iyare added the 7th Oba of Benin Invitational Golf Tournament overall winner’s trophy to the collection of trophies in his shelves.

Iyare, (hcp. 3) won the tournament with 149 net having played 70 and 79 net respectively on days one and two of the event. He beat Oscar Iyare (hcp. 10), who played 156 net to second place, while Prince Aghatise Erediauwa with 160 net settled for third position after beating Ben Oghumah on countback.

In his victory speech, Iyare said he had been eyeing the trophy since the tournament started, adding that he narrowly lost it last year.

“Thanks be to God that I won because I played hard golf due to the fact that I was thought in a hard way. All glory be to Him.”

Also speaking on the event, Prince Erediauwa said the tournament continued to get better every year due to the increase and support from all members, who had been demonstrating integrity and projecting the image of the club in good light. “Next year will be bigger and better than this,” he promised.

Other winners in the competition were S. Idehenre with 73 net in the BCGS men’s hcp. 19-28 category, S. Mahmud won the ladies hcp. 1-18, while Habiibah Oyarekhua, who is the ladies vice captain, won the hcp. 29-36 category.

Monday Ikguregbe won the veterans’ men trophy with 77 net, while A. Omofomwan with 76 net was declared winner in the super veteran cadre.

Rita Izoje from Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba was the best in the guest ladies’ category with 71 net, just as Esosa Ojomo won the best gross award with 170 gross.
