Organisers give players registration deadline

The competition, which brings some of the best young talents from across the world to the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, will hold from October 6 to 21.

Any player who wants to test his skills at the 17th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship must register for the competition from September 21 to 26 or forget about it, the organisers have said.

The competition, which brings some of the best young talents from across the world to the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, will hold from October 6 to 21.

According to a notice published on the website of the world body, International Tennis Federation (ITF), registration for the two-week competition will cost each player $40, while any player that wants to withdraw after registration must do so before September 26.

The ITF said the qualifying matches for the first leg (Futures 4) of the tournament will be played from October 7 to 8, while the main draws will hold from October 9 to 14 at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.

The ITF also said that players have up to September 28 to register for the second leg (Futures 5), while they have up to October 3 to withdraw after registrat6ion.  The second leg will end with the final matches and presentation of trophies on October 21.

Yesterday the Tournament Director, Prince Wale Oladunjoye revealed that the $100,000 prize money championship would be bigger this year with better attractive packaging to make the tournament more glamorous.

Oladunjoye said the Local Organising Committee (LOC), headed by Chief Pius Akinyelure in conjunction with the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), would leave nothing to chance to ensure that the 17th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis lives up to its billings.
