Enyimba head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has described as a bridge to continental ticket yesterday’s massive victory over Wikki Tourists, reports supersport.com.

The seven-time Nigerian champions beached the Bauchi Elephants 4-0 in yesterday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 36 clash at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

The People’s Elephant scored three goals in the first half off the boots of Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, Stephen Chukwude and Chinonso Okonkwo, while Stanley Dimgba grabbed the winner in the 74th minute to hand the Aba side the three points at stake.

Ogunbote said his side achieved their target going into the clash to dislodge Akwa United from the third spot on the league log. “Yes, today’s massive win against Wikki Tourists is the bridge to the continental ticket and we gave the clash our all thank God we got everything perfectly right.

“Of course, we did well to just get the required number of goals to cancel the deficit between us and Akwa United. “I’m happy we achieved the target with the 4-0 win against Wikki Tourists and we will have that at the back of our mind in the remaining two matches to strive to win with wide goal margin,” said the former Sunshine Stars coach to supersport.com.

Ogunbote said his side would be well oiled with the massive win against Wikki Tourists to head off to champions, Enugu Rangers for another five-star performance. “My desire in the clash at Enugu Rangers is to win but I know it will be tough as the hosts are not pushovers.

“Of course, we need the whole three points more than the home side to consolidate on the third spot on the league log. “We hope to cash in on the excitement of the hosts’ away win at Remo Stars to hit them hard in the clash,” said Ogunbote.

Wikki Tourists head coach, Bala Nikyu expressed disappointment over the blowout his side suffered in the hands of Enyimba.

“Before we left for the match at Enyimba the players assured they will get something out of the match but we lost massively at the end of the day that’s football for you.

“Relegation is out of consideration at the moment we will go home to strategise on winning the two other matches,” said Nikyu.
