Rivers United forward, Emeka Ogbugh has dedicated his VAT Wonder Goal Award to teammate and club goalkeeper, Abiodun Akande, who was injured during their match day 31 clash against Wikki Tourists.

Ogbugh was on Thursday named winner of the prestigious award by the League Management Company after his classic goal in same match that Akande sustained the horrific injury won maximum votes.

“Abiodun Akande sustained the injury while trying to prevent a goal for the team. The award is dedicated to him,” said Ogbugh, who becomes the 12th player to win the Wonder Goal Series this term.

When asked about the making of the goal, Ogbugh replied: “After controlling the ball towards goal, I realized there was a good chance for me to strike. My perfect chest control provided the stimulant for the goal,” he stated.

Ogbugh is the first Rivers United player to win the VAT Wonder Goal this term.

The award attracts a cash prize of N150, 000, half of which he will donate to a Charity of his choice within Rivers State.
