NTTF says no extension of registration for National Championships

The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) has advised its affiliate association in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to register their athletes before Oct. 31 for its National Championships.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the championships are to serve off Nov. 15 and end on Nov. 19 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.

NTTF’s Secretary-General Chinedu Ezealah-Ogundare told NAN on Monday in Lagos that no extension would be given after the closing date elapsed.

“For the successful hosting of this tournament just like the previous tournaments, I want state that associations should adhere to the requirements and the closing date for participation written in letters sent to them.

“When they do so, this will enable the federation to prepare adequately for the competition without any hitches. All logistics will be put in place to check disturbances,’’ she said.

NAN reports that the competition is for both the able-bodied and the physically challenged players.

The number of entries will determine the format of the competition. It will either be on group or knock-out basics. It can even be a combination of both.

From the rounds of 16 up to the finals, matches shall be on the best of seven games. The cadet categories shall be on best of five games. All doubles events shall be best of five games.

The events are men and women singles and men and women teams, junior boys’ and girls’ team, men and women doubles, senior mixed doubles, junior boys’ and girls’ singles.

Others are cadet boys’ and girls’ singles, veteran singles (50 years and above), para-men’s singles Classes 1-5, para-men’s singles Classes 6-10, para-women singles Classes 1-5, para-women singles Classes 6-10.

NAN reports that the Tournament Director is John Peters, an International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Blue Badge Umpire.

Also, the Tournament Referee is Olufemi George, an umpire who works in the Nigerian Breweries Plc. He will be assisted by Opeoluwa Osoba also an umpire.
