No Nigerian among World’s top 10 richest female footballers

No doubt, Super Falcons and Liverpool Ladies striker, Asisat Oshoala, is rated among talented footballers in the World, but when it comes to the big earners in the game, she is nowhere near the top ten.
According to report by, no Nigerian and indeed African female footballer is among the top 10 richest in the World.

Asisat Lamina Oshoala MON (born 9 October 1994), was named best player at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
She was also named best player and second top goalscorer, when the Super Falcons won the 2014 African Women’s Championship in Namibia.

The 20-year-old current African Female Footballer of the year made bold headlines shortly before the Canada 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, when she beat Spain’s Veronica Boquete, German Nadine Kessler, Scot Kim Little and Brazilian Marta to the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year Award.

In the list of richest female footballers released by, the likes of Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie, Onome Ebi, Josephine Chukwunonye, Ngozi Ebere, Halimatu Ayinde, veteran striker, Perpetua Nkwocha, England-based Ini-Abasi Umotong as well as US –based Francisca Ordega were nowhere to be found.

    Nigeria does not have the kind of world class players who would earn so much! Let face the truth, most of them play football in countries where playing football is more like fun. And I know that a lot of them are playing in Sweden, which means that after paying their rent they could hardly feed themselves. It is as bad as that!
