Nigeria To Compete In FIBA Youth Championship
THE Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has received a wild card invitation from the International Basketball Federation Africa (FIBA Africa) to be part of the 2015 U-16 Men’s and Women championship to hold at Madagascar and Mali in July.
According to NBBF President, Tijjani Umar, the Nigerian women’s team will participate in the final round of the fourth FIBA Africa U-16 Championship, which holds from July 10 to 19 in Antananarivo, while their male counterparts will participate in the final round of the Fifth African Nations Junior Championship in Bamako, Mali from July 30 to August 8.
The competition is expected to help the NBBF consolidate on its youth development efforts and a chance to showcase the Nigerian basketball talents at the world stage.
Umar disclosed that first and second place teams in the female and male African Championships will qualify for the FIBA U-17 World Championships billed to hold from June 25 to July 3 and July 16 to 24 next year respectively.
