Nigeria in Group A as Lagos readies for African Beach Soccer Nations Cup

Lagos State has reaffirmed its readiness to host this year’s African Beach Soccer Nations Cup slated for the Eko Atlantic City from December 13 to 18.

Lagos State has reaffirmed its readiness to host this year’s African Beach Soccer Nations Cup slated for the Eko Atlantic City from December 13 to 18.

Nigeria is in Group A alongside Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, and Ghana, while Madagascar, Libya, Morocco and Senegal are in Group B.Speaking during the unveiling of the programme for the Beach Soccer Cup of Nations, Lagos’ Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, said the state is hosting the championship because it believes “Lagos loves beautiful things to be happening in the state and we believe in the efficacy of sports, arts, culture, tourism, entertainment.

“Sports have been very important to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s government. You recall that we recently signed an agreement with FC Barcelona for FC BESCOLA Academy, which is the first in Africa.

“We are building five new stadia across the divisions of the state to utilize the abundant talents in the state.”. Also speaking at the event, the Co-chairman of the Committee and Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports, Mr. Deji Tinubu, said he was fortunate to be working for someone who has passion for sports.

“We are hosting the tournament to showcase the excellence of Lagos. We have created varieties and that is why we partnered cycling, FCBESCOLA, in trying to create sports culture in Lagos. The Governor wants Lagos State to be a preferred destination for sports and entertainment. This is the beginning of great things to come in Lagos,” he said.
