My Exploit At Pro-League Meet Is Divine, Says Adekuoroye

FOLLOWING her feat at the ongoing Pro-Wrestling League in India, Odunayo Adekuoroye has attributed her victories so far in the league format championship to God.

Speaking after defeating Turkey’s Babita Kumari of Up Warriors’ captain, 10-0, Adekuoroye, who is representing Revanta’s Mumbai Garuba team, said: “First and foremost, I want to thank the Almighty for the victory over Babita Kumari of Up Warriors. This victory and the previous two bouts have not been easy, but God has been the one seeing me through in all of these contests.”

The wrestler told The Guardian after conquering the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist in the 55kg on Thursday, that she was now getting herself in the right shape.

The Rio Olympics medal hopeful and world championship bronze medalist while explaining the weight change for Kumari, who competed in the 55kg at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and now competing in the 53kg, said: “Though, she won gold medal in the 55kg at the Commonwealth Games last year, this time around, she had to compete in the 53kg, because the 55kg is not an Olympic weight category.”

Commending Adekuoroye’s performance at the Pro-Wrestling League in India, her coach, Purity Akuh, said the athlete has kept to instructions. “Adekuoroye’s current shape has been tremendous. She keeps improving on every match. Like in today’s match, which was against an icon player, it was a sweet victory and this will boost her morale. What gladdened my heart was that she followed all the instructions.”

Adekuoroye is, however, scheduled to face another opponent tomorrow.

The Pro-Wrestling League, which is in its first edition, is an initiative of ProSportify and Wrestling Federation of India, organised to promote wrestling and provide participants the opportunity to earn a decent contract fee and prize money.
