My best is yet to come – Ogunlewe

Nigeria’s 100 metres men title holder, Seye Ogunlewe, said he was yet to hit his best.Ogunlewe, who ran 10.12 seconds in ongoing Warri Relays and Rio Olympic Trials in Sapele, Delta on Friday, said he needed to work harder and do better.

The athlete displaced Divine Oduduru and Oghene Egwero, who ran 10.25 seconds and 10.36 seconds, respectively, in the race at the trials.

I hope to get better in subsequent appearances.10.12 seconds is okay, but I will go back and work harder; I cannot say that the rain contributed to my performance but it is okay, I will take it.

My next target is to get better, execute more races and get better,” he said.

Similarly, Patience George, another athlete who ran 51.16 seconds to emerge winner in the women 400 metres, attributed her victory to adequate training.

It is not easy to be a national title holder; it takes a lot of preparation.I am satisfied with the time; the weather did not allow me do final training before we were called to run,’’ she said.

In the 10,000 metres women race, Deborah Nam came first with a time of 36.53 seconds, while Olumide Oluwakemi and Olumudi Aderonke came second and third with a time of 37.25 seconds and 37.28 seconds, respectively.

In the 10,000 metres men category, Emmanuel Gyang came first, returning at 21.31 seconds, while Solomon Yilbam came second at a time of 32.05 seconds and Daylong Sylvester, third, with a time of 32.29 seconds.

The competition will end on Saturday.
