Thomas Mueller admits his lack of form in front of goal is a concern, but insists his confidence remains uneffected as Bayern Munich face Arsenal on Tuesday.

Mueller, the joker of both the Bayern and Germany squads, is set to start on the bench at Arsenal with Carlo Ancelotti preferring Thiago Alcantara in the attacking midfield role behind hot-shot striker Robert Lewandowski.

Bayern hold a 5-1 lead from last month’s first-leg in Munich and the German league leaders have netted 20 goals in their last five games.

Despite four goals for Germany this season, Mueller has netted just once for Bayern in the Bundesliga with a further three in the Champions League.

He hit 20 league goals last season, so Mueller admits things could be going better, but is unconcerned, especially after an outstanding display when he provided three assists in a recent 8-0 drubbing of Hamburg.

“I don’t take myself too seriously and am still convinced of my qualities as a player,” Mueller told German daily Bild.

“There have certainly been more successful times in sport, but things must be considered in context.

“I can only say, if things don’t work out, I’ll be the player with the league’s best assists,” he added with a grin having set up nine league goals this season.

Mueller started the first leg against Arsenal on the bench, but came on for the last five minutes to claim the fifth goal after Bayern had floored the Gunners with three goals in 10 second-half minutes.

He says the Germans are neither fearing an Arsenal fight back nor taking anything for granted at the Gunners’ Emirates Stadium.

“We put in a very good first-leg and that gives us a lot of self confidence, but we are by no means in auto-pilot mode,” he said.

“We want to win and continue the good run we are currently in.”
