Monaco yesterday suspended Thierry Henry from his duties as their head coach with immediate effect, reports standard.co.uk. The club released a statement confirming their move, saying Henry’s assistant, Franck Passi will oversee training today.

The development comes after Henry banished a number of his first-team players to the reserves, accusing them of being more focused on their own futures rather than the club.

Henry replaced Leonardo Jardim in October in what has been his first job in management.

The Arsenal legend signed a deal until June 2021 but has won just two of 12 Ligue 1 games, failing to secure a single win in front of Monaco’s own fans.

Monaco are three points adrift of safety in the Ligue 1 relegation zone.

The former France international had attempted to lift spirits around the club with a carrying call in the wake of their 3-1 Coupe de France defeat at home to Metz.

“It’s in those moments where we have to be united, where we have to show ourselves, we have to be more decisive, we have to be mentally stronger,” he added.

“We managed to erase these problems, but we fell back into our way.

“We will create a small group to go on a mission. With players who have the ‘fibre’ of the club. We will tighten all that.

“We must go and stop talking. The future of the players and the club goes through Ligue 1. It is necessary to get out of this critical situation and quickly.”
