basketball-bilder.posterAll is now set for the sixth Jomirota Basketball Clinic expected to begin at the ultra-modern sports complex in Minna today.

The annual basketball clinic, which the organisers said is meant to “catch them young,” is being organised by Timeout4Africa Sports and Education Foundation, a United States-based non-governmental organisation.

This year’s edition of the basketball clinic is expected to attract no fewer than 500 children of between five and 18 years from the 25 local government areas of the state.

The weeklong clinic will feature 3×3 competition, free throws, three pointer, instructional clinic and other basketball skills.

According to the Director of the foundation, Mr. Jonathan Kolo, a United States-based former basketballer, the aim of the annual clinic is to encourage the children to develop interest in the game. It is his contribution to the development of basketball, he enthused.

Kolo pointed out that the main objective of the clinic, which includes “Enriching Childhood Through Education and Basketball,” is to inculcate the basic skills of the game into the children.

He disclosed that about 20 basketball coaches from across the country will participate in the clinic, adding that over 1000 balls will be distributed to all the participants, including schools bags, books, pens, T-Shirts and other items.

The climax of this year’s clinic will be a visit by the foundation to some selected schools in Minna, the state capital, prominent among which is Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) Nursery and Primary School, where over 150 school chairs and desks would be donated to the school to enhance learning.
