Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi may sign for French Ligue 1 side Olympic Marseille when the football transfer window opens in January, according to Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr.

“I saw him in London. He is in advanced discussions with Marseille,”  Rohr told Europe 1.

The Super Eagles’ captain has not played a game for Chelsea this season and his chances are slim with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte preferring to not rotate his team.

The Super Eagles boss said Mikel sees Marseille as a ‘serious option’ and will be ‘allowed to leave for free’.

Rohr said in November that he believed Mikel’s lack of playing time was a punishment for his participation at the Rio Olympics though the player himself claimed he got Conte’s blessing before going to Rio.

Brazilian midfielder Oscar has also lost his place in the team which has won 11 games consecutively. He’s rumoured to be heading to China.
