‘Mike Tyson could knock out Joshua, Wilder in one minute even now at 53’

Mike Tyson could knock out Deontay Wilder in a minute if he trained for six weeks, according to his former trainer Jeff Fenech.

Two-time heavyweight world champion Tyson established a reputation as one of the hardest-hitting punchers to ever lace up a pair of gloves during his career, which spanned 20 years over 1985 to 2005.

Tyson rendered 44 of his 56 opponents into a state of unconsciousness and still holds the record for being the youngest ever heavyweight champion, having scaled world heights when he knocked out Trevor Berbick in 1986 at the age of just 20.

Fenech, who trained Tyson towards the back-end of his distinguished and controversial career, believes he was a class above today’s giants in the heavyweight division and would have no trouble in dispatching the former WBC king Wilder, even now at 53, and despite being nine inches smaller.

“Boxing’s not the same now. I’d guarantee that if Mike Tyson trained for six weeks, he’d knock Wilder out in a minute,’ Fenech told Sporting News.

“He would hit them. If these guys are getting knocked out by Tyson Fury – who’s a great fighter, but not a huge puncher – Tyson would kill these guys.

“They’re not on the same level today.’

Despite not fighting since suffering a knockout defeat against Kevin McBride in 2005, Fenech is convinced Tyson could still beat Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Wilder now if he started training again.
He added: ‘Mike today, I reckon if he trained he could still beat these guys.

“Fury’s got these other skills, but Deontay Wilder’s got a punch and nothing else. If you punch him, it’s over.

“And Mike don’t miss.’
