MFM must beat Wikki Tourists to keep hope alive, says Ilechukwu

Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club (MFM FC) Coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has said the only way to keep the hope of finishing well in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this season alive, is to beat Wikki Tourists.

The Olukoya Boys are scheduled to trade tackle with the boys from Bauchi, in the second stanza of the NPFL Match Day 29, fixed for the Soccer Temple Stadium, Agege, Lagos State. The first game between the two teams played at the Abubarkar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, ended in a stalemate.

Speaking with The Guardian, yesterday, Ilechukwu said that for the club to be among the top teams in the elite division shows that there is something in the offing for them from God.

“Tomorrow’s match against Wikki Tourists is a must win for us in order for us to close up with the league leaders, Plateau United. We need to make our presence felt, as the league is still open.

“At this stage last season, we were on 35 points, but now we are second with 46 points. I do not think any club will want to write us off with our current position in the league. At the start of the season, we were written off; we were told that top 10 is out of it for us.

“But here we are robbing shudders with the big teams at the top despite some of our utility players leaving us to big clubs. Now the tone has changed; some are even routing for us to win the league with players we recruited from the grassroots,” he said.

The team, which has a poor away record after recording only an away victory over Sunshine Stars of Akure, and two draws against Shooting Stars of Ibadan and their opponent in today’s encounter, according to Ilechukwu has a cover from God.

“God’s grace had been with the team, and we too have been doing our best. Though we lost our last away game against Rivers United, but thank God we are still second on the log. This means that there is something big about to happen to us. I can assure our fans that it is not yet over for the club until it is over,” he stated.

MFM’s next game will be against defending champions, Enugu Rangers, in an away fixture slated for Wednesday.
