Supersport viewers on DStv can look forward to what could be the first step of a ‘treble’ from Manchester City, as they face Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the 2020-21 Carabao Cup tomorrow at Wembley Stadium in London at 4:30pm. The match will be on SuperSport Premier League (203).

City find themselves looking to win three trophies this season: the Carabao Cup, Premier League and UEFA Champions League. It could have been four, but they exited the FA Cup at the hands of Chelsea in last weekend’s semi-finals.

Now they have the chance to win the Carabao Cup for a fourth successive season (and a fifth time from the last six campaigns), though manager Pep Guardiola comes into the match defending his team selection from the Wembley defeat to the Blues.

“When a team arrives in the final stages of all the competitions, when this team, wins four finals in a row in the Carabao Cup, you can’t say that. Just say we lost the game,” he said. “We don’t get to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, the final of the Carabao Cup four years in a row and the semi-finals of the Champions League when we do not pay attention to anything.”

Tottenham, meanwhile, come into the game in disarray after sacking manager Jose Mourinho and his technical team early this week – hardly the best preparation as they look to win the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2008 and a fifth time overall.

“Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic,” said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

“On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”

Meanwhile, football lovers can also look forward to live action from the 2020-21 La Liga and Serie A seasons, with matches showing on DStv and GOtv.

SuperSport is the only place to get English commentary from the legendary La Liga, where the pick of matches for this round sees Real Madrid host Real Betis at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano in the late kick-off today at 8pm on SuperSport La Liga (DStv channel 204) and SuperSport GOtv La Liga (GOtv channel 32).

Los Blancos have roared back into a position where a second successive championship is a very real proposition, though Betis are a much-improved team under Manuel Pellegrini and Zinedine Zidane will warn his side against complacency.

The Verdiblancos, meanwhile, will look to veteran attacker Joaquin for inspiration, with the club icon insisting that he wants to keep playing on past his 40th birthday – which will be in July this year!

The weekend also features a potential thriller between Villarreal and Barcelona at Estadio de la Ceramica tomorrow at 3:15pm on SuperSport La Liga and SuperSport GOtv La Liga, with Nigerian star Samuel Chukwueze looking to inspire the Yellow Submarine to a first win over the Blaugrana since way back in 2008.

Title hopefuls Atletico Madrid face a tough trip to the Basque country later the same day to take on Athletic Bilbao at 8pm on SuperSport La Liga and SuperSport GOtv La Liga.

The headline fixture from Serie A for this round sees Lazio host Milan at Stadio Olimpico on the evening of Monday 26 April at 7:45pm on SuperSport Football (DStv channel 205) and SuperSport GOtv Select 1 (GOtv channel 33), with both teams hunting European football for next season.

Le Aquile are hopeful of breaking into the top four, though tough competition from the likes of Roma, Atalanta and Napoli makes that anything but a straightforward task for Simone Inzaghi and his charges.

Milan, meanwhile, are hoping to finish second behind cross-town rivals Internazionale – who are almost certain to go on and claim the Scudetto – with manager Stefano Pioli urging his team to keep pushing all the way to the finish line.

Elsewhere this weekend, Inter will look to continue their march to the title when they host Hellas Verona at 2pm on SuperSport Variety 3 (DStv channel 208), while Juventus will look to continue the promise they have shown in recent times when they play away to Fiorentina at 2pm on SuperSport Football and SuperSport GOtv Select 1.

Other games to watch include a relegation six-pointer between Parma and Crotone today at 5pm, as well as Atalanta hosting Bologna at 7:45pm and Napoli visiting Torino at 5:30pm – two further games which will have ramifications in the battle for European places. All on SuperSport Football and SuperSport GOtv Select 1.
