Last year’s finalists in the African Beach Soccer Nations Cup, Madagascar and Senegal began their campaign in the Lagos 2016 edition of the championship on victorious notes, beating their opponents Libya and Morocco, 9-5 and 2-1 respectively.

The defending champions, Madagascar, opened the championship with a 9-5 victory over hard-fighting Libya at the Eko Atlantic in a Group B game, which saw the cup holders rushing to a 6-2 lead in the first period.

Libya upped their game in the second period to cut back the deficit to 6-5, but Madagascar pulled away in the third and final period, scoring three more goals to end the game 9-5.

The clash of the group will hold tomorrow when Madagascar takes on Senegal in a game that would determine the pool leader. Libya face Morocco in the second group game the same day.

Senegal had to summon their experience to beat resilient Morocco 2-1 after the first and second periods had ended goalless. The West Africans’ fortunes changed in the third quarter when they raced on to a 2-0 lead. Morocco halved the deficit in the last moments of the game, but their determination could not fetch them more goals as Senegal held on to a precious victory.
