Zach MacCourt of the United States and Zimbabwe’s Duncan Mugabe became the first foreign players to arrive Abuja for the Tombim ITF Futures tennis tournament, which serves off next week at the tennis courts of the National Stadium.

The two players immediately hit the courts of the Abuja Tennis Club to acclimatize before the arrival of over 40 other foreign players slated for the event.

MacCourt, who graduated from Princeton University with a degree in aeronautics last year, disclosed that he had come to improve on his ranking, which is above 1500.

Mugabe was in Nigeria last year for the maiden edition of the Tombin Open and the Lagos Governors Cup.

Meanwhile, the organisers of the tournament have revealed that renovation work on the courts to be used for the matches is nearing completion.

Envisaging the rains during the tournaments, the organisers said they are upgrading the facilities and also covering the centre court so that the matches could go unhindered.
