Atletico Madrid full-back Filipe Luis has returned to training following three weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Filipe Luis was ruled out of Atleti’s LaLiga matches with Villarreal and Las Palmas as well as the second leg of their Copa del Rey tie with Guijuelo, as they cruised into the last 16.

The Brazil international is now set to return in Atletico’s friendly against Saudi side Al-Ittihad on Friday, having been named in coach Diego Simeone’s 20-man squad.

A club statement read: “Filipe Luis was medically discharged and is available for Diego Pablo Simeone. Our player suffered a muscle injury of the semimembranosus muscle of the back of the left thigh.”

Filipe Luis, 31, has made 18 appearances for Atletico in all competitions this season.
