Lagos Lawn Tennis Club partners UK-based Culford School on exposure of young Nigerian players

Representatives of Culford Senior and Sixth Form School, United Kingdom, are in Lagos to partner with Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan to scout for young talented Nigerian tennis players who can fit into their tennis development programmes and education curriculum.

The Assistant Head, Culford Senior and Sixth Form School, David Watkin said: “We are in Nigeria in search of young talented tennis players we can offer sponsorship.  That is why we are here to partner with Lagos tennis club that already have the culture of grooming young and up coming future tennis stars.”

He added that the scholarship deal would entail a twenty five percent reduction from the normal 30,000 pounds yearly school fee of the institution.

He urged Nigeria parent to give their wards the opportunity to have double future assurance of been future tennis stars, and well educated kids.

Watkin noted that one Elizabeth Pam, a UK-born Nigerian graduated from the school and she recently represents Nigeria in the Africa Junior Tennis competition, and she played in the finals of the CBN Junior Tennis Championship last year.

The President, Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Prince Gbenga Lufadeju, while responding, said that he was very excited with the partnership, adding that such opportunity could be happening during his tenure. “I see this partnership as one of the yardstick that will promote and drive future interest in tennis from our young ones. The school is a good one. We hope to visit the school and finalise all the needed arrangement that will see to a robust partnership.”

The Tennis captain, Lagos Tennis club, Mr. Adeola Osimosu said: “The partnership came at the right time when we were having our annual summer clinic. The week long training impacted so much on the young Tennis stars by coach from Culford Senior and Sixth Form handler, Mr Mylef Orton, a former UTD player was very professional and very technical.

“The kids felt it and it has really improved their skills, so we are very excited with the partnership as it will give our young talented tennis players the opportunity to get professional tennis skills and also study for their different school activities. It is a double opportunity for our talented tennis player as well as an opportunity for the country to have future international world tennis stars,” he said.
