Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s quest to bring regional and international championships to the Lagos State and his passion to integrate sports with tourism, hospitality and entertainment were the reasons the state successfully hosted the 2016 CAF Beach Soccer Cup of Nations, Director-General of the Lagos Sports Commission, Mr. Adewunmi Ogunsanya, has revealed.

According to Ogunsanya, Ambode’s passion to develop sports in the state and determination to make Lagos the hub of sports in the African continent were also responsible for his decision to accept the hosting right for the championship.

The Director-General noted with delight the assessments by officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which gave the state a pass mark for hosting the five-day tournament.

He said: “True to the rating of CAF, our team in the Local Organising Committee, which was carefully selected, has done excellently well. The facilities and the general organisation were fantastic. Throughout the duration of the competition, there was no casualty, everything flowed seamlessly into each other with no friction. All activities were channeled together. There was no complaint and the players were very happy.

“The other aspects of the competition also went well, including the boat cruise and the bus tour. It was an excellent competition and we are indeed very proud of our efforts in hosting the championship.”
