‘Kwara Golf academy will raise champions for Nigeria’

The golf academy being planned by the Kwara State Government will help Nigeria to nurture future champions and also boost the tourism industry in the state, the Chief of Staff at the Kwara State Government House, Alhaji Abdulwahab Babatunde Yusuf, has said.

Yusuf told some sports journalists in his office on Tuesday that the government would partner with the Ilorin Golf Club in the project, adding that when actualised the academy would be the first of it kind in the country.

He revealed that the state government was studying the proposal presented by the Ilorin Golf Club, adding that it was in line with the government’s programme of empowering the youths through sports.

The chief of staff revealed that the state government had earmarked adequate resources for sports development in the 2016 budget, promising that the government would provide additional training pitches and upgrade swimming pool to meet international standard.

He assured the journalists of the government’s continuous partnership in promoting the activities and welfare of their members in the state.

Earlier in his remarks, the journalists, led by Bunmi Adedoyin, had commended the state government over its investment in the sports sector and urged the government not to relent in assisting all sports clubs in the state.
Adedoyin also appealed to the government to redeem its pledges to the Association to enhance its activities.
