Over 104 athletes are set to take part in the Kebbi Taekwondo Open Championships at the Hauru Abdul Stadium, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, from November 9 to 11.

Six African Games medalists, Chinazum Nwosu, Sunday Onofe, among other winners, who represented the country at the recently concluded African Games in Rabat, Morocco, have registered to be part of the three-day competition.

The championship, the first National Taekwondo Federation (NTF)-sanctioned event in the state, is being organised in collaboration with the Kebbi State Taekwondo Association.

According to the NTF, the Daedo Gen 2 scoring technology, Instant Video Replay as well as the Taekoplan Overall Event Management system would be deployed to ensure the championship conforms to international standards.

The registration, which is still ongoing, has so far recorded 70 males and 34 females from 22 teams across the country. The event is the final nationally ranked championships of the NTF before the highly anticipated debut of the season-ending best-of-the-best next month, which will host the nation’s top five athletes in each Olympic weight category.

The event in Kebbi State will add to the number of states that have hosted the national championships in the last two years. Others include Borno, Lagos, Kwara, Ebonyi, Kaduna, FCT Abuja, Osun, Benue, and Zamfara.
