Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, as well as ministers and senators of the Federal Republic are expected in Owerri tomorrow for a N50 million launch and reception being organised for Papilo FC by former Super Eagles’ Captain, Nwankwo Kanu.

Kanu, who is the proprietor of the Owerri-based team, according to a statement by the club, is determined to change the welfare and general condition of services of the players, who recently won the Imo State FA Cup, beginning with tomorrow’s event.

According to the statement signed by the chief organiser of the event, Evangelist Myke Ikoku, the ceremony, which would be chaired by Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah of Capital Oil & Gas, will hold at the Nwankwo Kanu Sports Complex, behind Imo State University, Owerri.

“Kanu’s aim of sponsoring this event is to ensure that other budding and talented footballers follow in his successful footsteps as a footballer. He sincerely wants to give back to the people all the glory, honour and rhapsodies that football has been giving him,” the statement said.

Ikoku, who is also the chief executive officer of All Seasons Hotel, Owerri, said the event is expected to attract dignitaries in Nigerian sports and captains of industry, as well as top politicians, including serving and former ministers, National Assembly members and states’ governors.
