Although Nigeria’s first and only representative at the VP Bank Ladies Open, Georgia Oboh did not make the cut, the teenage sensation is still satisfied with her performance at the competition which featured some of the best players in the international women’s game.

Oboh played two rounds with scores of 75/77 with an impressive four4 birdies on the second day, which was a great improvement on her last year’s performance of 80/86. And when the fact that she, an amateur, was pitched against veteran professionals then it becomes obvious that the 16-year-old Nigerian is on the right track.

An elated Oboh told The Guardian that her ball striking and her improved statistics on the course and her position (she beat at least 20 professional players) was a good performance overall.

Last year, she was only able to beat two professionals on the same course.

Oboh said she learnt a lot from the professional players and is now looking forward to joining the professional ranks once she can get the necessary support.

The Ikoyi Club 1938 Lagos graduate is now focused on the next phase of her development, as well as the U.S. Women’s Open qualifying tournament at Seagate Country Club in Delray Beach, Florida.

Georgia, who was also invited to the competition last year, did not have a share of the prize money since she is still an amateur. But she believes the experience from the event will aid her performance at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she is Nigeria’s sole entrant in the golf event.

Georgia is carrying the Nigerian flag proudly, but she is still seeking the required funding to help her prepare well for the Youth Olympic Games. And her team is still hopeful that a corporate body will come to her aid soon.
