Iheanacho, Mikel, Moses thrill fans, as Iwobi returns to training

The Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, yesterday wore a festive mood as fans from within and outside the city thronged the arena to catch a glimpse of the Super Eagles, who are expected to be true heroes when they confront the Pharaohs of Egypt in an African Nations Cup qualifier tomorrow.

This is the second time the Eagles will play at the stadium during this qualifying series, but tomorrow’s game has assumed a higher dimension following the quality and reputation of Nigeria’s opponents.

The Eagles, who arrived Kaduna from Abuja on Tuesday afternoon,
had their first training session in the evening to shake off their bodies and tune up for the match with 23 players taking part in the exercise made up of warm up, ball work and 11- a-side game
for two hours.

Arsenal of England starlet, Alex Iwobi, who is recovering from a mild ailment, sat out the 11-aside training match on Tuesday. But he did personal warm up and physical training for 20 minutes.

Iwobi joined the team’s full training yesterday and together with the rest of the squad, the Eagles had their first strenuous session since the foreign-based players joined the squad.

The players were in good mood as they displayed their talents to the admiration of the over 1, 000 fans, who thronged the stadium to watch the team train.

The crowd could not help but applaud the dashing movements of Kelechi Iheanacho, Mikel Obi and Victor Moses, among others.

Team Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, said that having 20 foreign-based players for the first training session of the Super Eagles yesterday was commendable, noting that the early arrival of the players marks a clear departure to what it used to be in the past.
