For assaulting match officials during their last home tie against visiting Niger Tornadoes, the Nigeria National League (NNL) has fined Mighty Jets of Jos N1. 2 million.

According to the NNL, the measure will serve as a deterrent to other teams in the league.

A breakdown of the fine shows that N1 million is for encroaching on the field of play, while N200, 000 is for the assault on Match Officials, which resulted to the abandonment of the Week 5 encounter in Jos.

The club will in addition forfeit three points to Tornadoes in accordance with Article 4.3 (1), while it will play its upcoming home matches behind closed doors in accordance with Article 6.0 (1).

In a letter conveying the sanctions signed by NNL secretary, Lawrence Katken, the league body also handed an indefinite suspension to Jets player, Ndala lbrahim, who was said to have led three supporters to molest the Match Officials on the day.

NNL ordered officials of Jets and Plateau FA to produce the three unidentified supporters involved in the attack within seven days of the letter, just as it directed that the fines must be paid before Mighty Jets’ next home match or they will face severe fines.
