Honesty House on Thursday won the Victory Group of Schools fourth unified biennial inter-house competition held at the schools sports ground in Ikeja, Lagos.

The competition had board members, parents and students of the school, as well as sports enthusiasts on hand to cheer the athletes as they competed for honours in both junior and senior events. The visually-impaired were also not left out as they competed in athletics, javelin, discuss, table tennis, high jump, dart and basketball, among other events.

Some invited schools also took part in a relay race, while old students, parents, academic and non-academic staff also took to the tracks.

At the end, Honesty House (Blue) topped the medals table with a total of 21 gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze medals, beating Punctuality House (Red) which secured 15 gold, five silver and four bronze medals to the second position.

Unity House (Green) gathered 16 gold, 17 silver and 10 bronze medals to finish in the third position, leaving Perseverance (Yellow) in fourth place with 17 gold, 16 silver and 13 bronze medals.

Speaking at the event, managing Proprietor of the school, Dr. C.F.I Olaniyan attributed the success of the competition to concerted efforts of the students and teachers, who wanted to mark the Golden jubilee of the school in a grand way.

He described the competition as a platform for the students to participate in sporting activities and to also know the areas of their strengths.
“Sports is also part of education because a sound health works with a sound mind. This is a grassroots platform to encourage the skilled once among them,” he said.

Also speaking on the competition, one of the senior teachers in the school, Paimo Sunday disclosed that school had produced athletes who excelled in national competitions.

While soliciting support and sponsorships for the school’s sports programme, Sunday said the talented athletes needed close monitoring to realize their potential.
