Odoh pulls out of four Sunshine Tour events

By Eno-Abasi Sunday   |   29 September 2009   |   10:00 pm

He is currently placed 137 out of the 170 players ranked on the 2009 Sunshine Tour Order of Merit following the 5th September SAA Pro-Am Invitational at 7,014-metre par 72 Randpark Golf Club, Randburg, Johannesburg, South Africa.

If the missed events had relegated Odoh to tail part of the ranking, then his decision to pull out of more events would further give room for his ranking to sag.

Odoh, who spoke with The Guardian from his base in South Africa said: “I have withdrawn from the next four tour events because I’m coming back home for the tournament at Akwa Ibom”. That is the Akwa Ibom Open slated to hold at Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, from 22 to 27 September, as part of activities to mark 22nd anniversary of the state’s creation.

Explaining the rationale behind his decision to withdraw from the tournaments, he said, because he had to pre-qualify for the Vodacom Business Origins of Golf Tour, at the Selborne Hotel Spa & Golf Estate, Kwazulu Natal. The pre-qualifiers took place last Tuesday. The other events he was billed to pre-qualify for are R105,000 Telkom Business Pro-Am at Pearl Valley Golf Estates (Paarl, Western Cape), and the R480,000 Vodacom Business Origins of Golf Tour-final at Simola Golf Estate (Kysna, Southern Cape).

“It would be too much for me to be flying and pre-qualifying. I will start playing again from BMG in October16 till the end of season”, Odoh concluded.
